Access to Recovery Spreads Awareness About Substance AbuseAccess to Recovery is a national project by the Canadian Association of Independent Living Centres (CAILC) in partnership with the Canadian Abilities Foundation that focuses on people with disabilities and substance abuse. CAILC has spoken with both consumers and substance abuse service providers about how it can help increase the level of support available to people with disabilities who are seeking help with their substance use. Among the issues discovered so far in the project, its research found that there needs to be:
In October 2006, at the CAILC Annual General Meeting, representatives from each ILRC will participate in a training session that will help them present information and tools to consumers in their local area about substance abuse and issues that go along with it. This will help spread awareness and knowledge about the issue of substance abuse among people with disabilities.
