WARNING: A person received an e-mail asking to purchase some rugby wheels she had advertised on this site from a man in Nigeria. He sent her a cheque from an insurance company for $3300 with instructions to cash it, deduct her $500 and wire the balance to his "shipper". The cheque was fraudulent and Western Union said the insurance company has reported several other instances of this scam going on in Canada.

  • Disability Studies Student looking for Queer women with disabilities for research project

I am a Ryerson University Student in the Disability Studies Program in my final year, completing a required research project. For this research project I have chosen to work with self identified queer women with physical disabilities to explore their experiences of accessing disability focused support services (i.e. attendant care, social workers, medical services). I want to learn if women participating in the project feel services they have accessed include sex and sexuality information for queer women with disabilities and create a space for queer women to be out.

Participants would be involved in a confidential one on one interview with myself. I am queer identified, able-bodied woman who is committed to working with women, and eradicating the typical model of researching over, instead of researching with people.

I am looking for self identified queer women with physical disabilities in the Toronto area. I will do my best to accommodate a meeting time and place that fits your needs.

To ask further questions about participating in this project please contact: Jenn at [email protected] or at 416-757-3703

Please forward this to any women you think may be interested in this project.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Nation Wide Study On The Needs Of People In Canada Who Are Blind Or Living With Low Vision.

The CNIB is seeking participants for a national study investigating the challenges faced by people who have a vision impairment. The study explores a broad range of issues including the impact of vision loss on family and social life, health, education, employment and overall quality of life. By participating in this study, you will contribute to building knowledge about the challenges of living with vision loss and what is required to strengthen social and health services systems. The information gathered in this study will be widely disseminated to governments, policy makers, service providers and to the community at large.

We are seeking adults who are at least 21 years of age and who are experiencing vision impairment that cannot be completely corrected with corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses). Participation in the study is voluntary and confidential. Interviews will be arranged at the convenience of the participant.

If you are willing to participate, or would like more information, please contact Helen Simson toll free at 1-866-577-7727 or [email protected]

    Volunteer Opportunities

  • The Canadian Abilities Foundation has an ongoing volunteer opportunity that is flexible, fun and allows you to help other people with disabilities without having to leave home. We are inviting everyone, especially people with disabilities to participate in our Access Guide Canada project (AGC). AGC strives to bring you the most accurate listings on accessible resources across Canada. This is your opportunity to share what you know about accessibility in your community. By adding your own favourite accessible locations you can help make the AGC site a great resource for everyone.

Getting started is easier than setting up a hotmail account. To set up your member account, go to the AGC page (click on the large Access Guide Canada logo on the Enablelink home page). Once on the AGC page click the add a listing link. All that is required from you for a membership is to select a user name and password. Membership is free but it does have it's privileges. You can make sure your community is represented in AGC. You can highlight the businesses and services that you feel do a great job serving people with disabilities. You can also subscribe to our informative E-zine the Enablelinker.

Don't hesitate to take part. You can commit as much or as little time as you want. For every assessment you add to AGC there is someone somewhere now able to visit your community and feel welcome! Working together we can make Canada the best possible place for a person with a disability to live and visit. If you have any questions or need more information contact Christine Staddon, Volunteer Coordinator, Canadian Abilities Foundation, 501-489 College St., Toronto, M6G 1A5. Ph: 416-923-5948 Fax: 416-923-9829 E-mail: [email protected]
