It is an exciting time to be a young person with a disability. Stereotypes are being broken down every day, and accessible opportunities are on the rise. Chances are you won't have to deal with many of the barriers that hindered the last generation of people with disabilities. It's a time to make your voice heard - and to get involved in what the world has to offer you!

  • You or someone you know might enjoy reading On My Own: A Resource Guide to Living Independently. This is a friendly, helpful handbook for people with disabilities as they make the transition to living on their own. It covers moving into a new place, cooking and housekeeping, safety in the home, and more. Check it out!

  • Do you enjoy connecting with other young people with disabilities? Want to make some new friends in other cities, even other countries? Join our list of Pen Pals, soon to be posted on EnableLink. Send your first name, your age, the place you live (e.g. city, province and/or country) and a brief description of yourself (if you want, include your disability, hobbies and interests) to [email protected]. We will soon be adding a Pen Pals feature to this section!

  • What do I do with all these feelings? It's not easy to be a teen with a disability, especially when it comes to sexual development. The Spring 1999 issue of ABILITIES magazine featured a fascinating article on this topic. Read all about it in "Growing Pains" by Lynne Swanson.

Don't forget to share! Send us your news, updates and events for youth to include on EnableLink. E-mail [email protected].
